FORMER JOO CHIAT POLICE STATION
86 East Coast Rd
Joo Chiat Police Station was first built in 1928 so as to serve the growing population in the area. Joo Chiat was also infamously known for its secret society in the early days. With the building conserved, we noticed that the design is similar to that of the Government buildings founded in the pre-war days.
The Police Station is now renamed as Katong Village and is well-known for the Hong Kong café. We had a quick bite in the café and one thing that was noticeable in the café was the presence of tall ceilings. The tall ceilings helped to ventilate the air in those early days where air-conditioners were not invented yet.
